NALA is a startup that facilitates affordable money transfers from the United Kingdom to Kenya. The company plans to expand to Tanzania and Uganda.
We’re currently operating with a private beta group of users who are sending funds from the UK to Kenya. We’ll be opening new sending and receiving markets very soon.
How NALA Works
At the moment, NALA is in private beta on Google Play Store and Apple Store. If you are interested in NALA money transfer services, you can request early access here. For identity verification during sign up, NALA needs a government issued ID such as passport, driver’s license, and national registration card.
How to Pay for NALA Transfers
To fund your money transfer on NALA app, you have the option of paying with a debit card (Visa or Mastercard) or a bank transfer.
How to Receive NALA Money Transfers
The person you are sending money to with NALA can receive the money directly into their mobile money wallet. Supported networks are Airtel Money and M-Pesa. Your recipients will be notified of the transfers via text messages sent by their mobile phone provider the moment the money arrives in their account. They will also receive a text message from NALA with the name of the sender and amount sent. Transfers into bank accounts will be introduced soon.
How Long Does NALA Transfers Take?
NALA transfers into recipients mobile money wallets are instant.
NALA Transfer Limit
Maximum amounts to be sent via NALA depend on on your recipient’s mobile money provider’s individual limits. You should find this information from your mobile phone company.
NALA Fees
NALA does not charge any fees for money transfers. However, the money transfer organisation adds a small markup to the exchange rate. Therefore, the cost to send money using NALA will differ depending on the day’s exchange rate. The markup will be shown in your app each time you make a transfer.
Where Can I Send Money With NALA?
Currently, you can use NALA to send money from the UK to Kenya. Other countries such as Tanzania and Uganda will be supported soon.
Is NALA Legit and Safe?
NALA Payments Ltd is an agent of Modulr FS Limited which is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the United Kingdom. NALA uses bank grade security to protect customers’ transactions. Moreover, NALA is subject to the provisions of the Second Payment Services Directive (PSD2) and the European Banking Authority (EBA) Draft Regulatory Technical Standards on Strong Customer Authentication and common and secure communication.
